A Guide to Pairing Food with Honey Liqueur Cocktails
Honey has often been referred to as the nectar of the gods, so when you pour a glass of Greek Lightning Honey Liqueur, you experience the rich taste that only the gods of Mt. Olympus know. Legend has it that our honey liqueur was handed down to us by Zeus himself. We distilled it and infused it with organic grape honey from the orange blossom trees at the foot of Sparta’s Taygetos Mountains.
Truly, a drink as divine as this can only be served with a meal fit for the gods. It’d be a real sin to have a glass of Greek Lightning with leftover noodles from the night before. Before anyone offends the gods, we’ve come up with a foolproof guide on pairing the right food with your honey spirit.
Appetizers: Honey-Ginger Cocktail with Cheese
When you invite your friends over for game night or movie night, start off the evening with a refreshing honey-ginger cocktail. For two cocktails, you’ll need:
- 1 oz Greek Lightning Honey Liqueur
- 4 oz Bourbon of Choice
- 1 oz Lime Juice, fresh squeezed
- 4-6 oz Ginger Beer
Pour your Greek Lightning, bourbon, and lime juice into a cocktail shaker with some ice. Strain out your drink into a couple tall glasses and top them off with some ginger beer. Garnish with a lime wedge for extra pizzazz.
For your appetizer, pair your honey-ginger cocktail with a cheese platter! Include a combination of aged cheeses such as Gruyère, as well as fresh, creamy cheeses, such as goat cheese and feta. Decorate your board with some fig spread, slices of pear, and a handful of roasted almonds or walnuts.
Seafood Entrees: Bee’s Knees Cocktail with Oysters
When you’re craving some seafood, be sure to pair it with some gin and lemon! A Bee’s Knees cocktail with a seafood platter is the food-and-liquor marriage you’ve been waiting for. For two cocktails, you’ll need:
- 2 oz Greek Lightning Honey Liqueur
- 2 oz Gin of Choice
- 2 oz Lemon Juice
Pour your Greek Lightning, gin, and lemon juice into a shaker, and strain it into a martini glass. Garnish your drinks with a couple lemon twists.
When you have seafood as your entree, you need something acidic to brighten up those briny flavors. A combination of gin, derived from juniper berries, and lemon juice has a perfect amount of fruitiness to complement oysters, prawns, fish, and more! Meanwhile, a dash of our honey liqueur will add some richness to your entree.
American Food Entrees: Honey Beer, Burgers, and Wings
There’s nothing like some good old fashioned burgers and beers. For those special game nights or dinner parties though, you’ll want to take your beer to the next level with some honey beer:
- ½ oz Greek Lightning Honey Liqueur
- Dash of Fresh Orange, Lemon, or Lime Juice
- 1 Bottle of Ale
Pour half an ounce of Greek Lightning into a glass, a dash of fresh orange, lemon, or lime juice, and then top it off with your favorite ale. Garnish it with an orange, lemon, or lime wedge.
This zesty beer cocktail is what you need for a night of classic burgers and wings. Don’t be stingy with your hot sauce, as the richness of honey will only make spicy foods taste better. For an even more perfect arrangement, coat the bottom of your burger buns with blue cheese, and leave some out as a dip for your wings. Blue cheese helps cut the bitterness of beer, while honey helps cut the saltiness from blue cheese.
Decadent Desserts: Whiskey Honey Lemonade and Chocolate
Lemonade and brownies might remind you of summer picnics with family and friends. Recreate those memories with an “adultified” version of lemonade, using your favorite whiskey. For a pitcher of deliciousness:
- 4 oz Greek Lightning Honey Liqueur
- 2 oz Whiskey of Choice
- 2 Cups of Lemonade
- 1 Cup of Club Soda
- 1-2 Stems of Your Favorite Herbs (Basil, Lavender, Mint, etc.)
Fill up a pitcher with ice and several slices of lemon. Pour in your Greek Lightning, whiskey, lemonade, and club soda into a pitcher. Add one to two stems of your favorite herbs, as well as a couple leaves for garnish.
The best type of chocolate to pair with your honey cocktail is dark chocolate. Honey cuts the bitterness of dark chocolate, while the citrus notes add to the richness. Try your sweet concoction with chocolate truffles, marbled cheesecake, brownies, or double chocolate cookies.
Get creative with your recipes when you use Greek Lightning Honey Liqueur.
